These devices deliver a strong downward rotational force. Alongside socket sets and tougher screwdriver bits, they are often used to loosen up large bolts or screws that are either frozen or over torqued. You can also use them to over tighten a screw or bolt that you wouldn't be able to budge with a regular screwdriver.
What you'll find inside of a manual impact driver is a thick outer sleeve that goes around an inner core. The spline is such that 180 person strikes the outer sleeve with an object, its downward force hits on the spline to generate a turning force on the core and any work bit or socket attached to it. This tool converts the heavy rotational inertia of the sleeve to the smaller core to generate torque in large amounts. To eliminate cam out, the striking blow from the hammer pushes the impact driver down into the screw. This is really helpful for Phillips type screws which normally cam out when out to this use. This doesn't work as well for flathead screws and is not helpful at all or most of the other types of screws.

These tools allow you to get things done quickly on a construction site or even a home project. You will find the most advanced charging system out there in this Makita tool. Inside the battery, you'll find a computer chip that tells the charger when the battery has been fully charged and this will prolong the batteries life. It's battery has a bunch of 1.2 V cells inside of it. When you use a battery, it won't drain evenly and the internal cells will diminish at different rates. A regular charger will halt the process of charging the batteries when one of the cells reached its maximum capacity, but normally not all of them. You'll find that once this has happened, it will continue to work as this is long as you have the battery fully charged. You'll now discover that your 18 V battery is now discharging like a 16 or 17 V battery. A "Smart charger" will keep your 18 V battery at an off-the-wall 18 volts by independently charging each cell. This charger keeps nice and cool with its internal fan which will prevent damaging your battery pack. You'll find that these keep the batteries lasting up to 280% longer than the regular type of batteries and can be charged over 1000 times, which is much better than the standard 700 or so times you can with a regular battery pack. What's nice about this unit is it is able to keep going without having to swap batteries very often.
